A Fairy Tale for Children from Lutsk Artist
It is very comfortable and cozy in the Volyn Regional Center for Social and Psychological Rehabilitation of Children in Kovel. There are a lot of bright toys in spacious rooms. They have all necessary conditions for restoring mental balance of children aged 3 to 18.
Nataliia Kondratovych, an educator and methodologist of the Center, notes that in they work with orphans and children with one parent who are facing difficult life circumstances. During 9 months, the time that a child can spend in the Center, they acquire knowledge and skills for independent living.
Young and creative educators give group and individual classes. They use different methods of psychological rehabilitation: aromatherapy and therapy with fairy tales, the sand drawing, games and correctional lessons. There are many clubs for psychological discharging: children are taught bead weaving, making traditional “Motanka” dolls; teachers run different workshops. In the gym everyone interested can use modern fitness machines. Most of the times at the Center children spend in a rehabilitation room.
To cheer the children up, Khrystyna Pelin, a student of Lesya Ukrainka East-European National University, has planned to paint the wall of the rehabilitation room in warm colors. Ihor Palytsia’s Foundation “Tilky Razom” has helped her to spring her idea to life.
“With confidence, we can call the Foundation employees friends of our institution, – says Nataliia Kondratovich. – For Christmas we received sweet gifts from the Foundation. In March children went to an interesting children’s play in Kovel. This time, a promising graduate from Lesia Ukrainka East European National University has created a real fairy tale in the relaxation room. My colleagues and I have realized that only together we can make the Center a cozy place to stay.
The author of wall paintings, Khrystyna Pelin, taking on this task, has already had some experience. Being in the team of Olha Filiuk, a scholarship holder of Ihor Palytsia’s Foundation “Tilky razom”, Khrystyna Pelin painted walls in the wards of the surgical and oncohematological departments of the Volyn Regional Territorial Medical Association, as well as at the Consultative Polyclinic.
The fairy-tale landscape in the Volyn Regional Center for Social and Psychological Rehabilitation of Children is Khrystyna’s graduation work. When choosing a plot, the girl was guided not only by her own vision.
