They often stay alone with their troubles. Some don’t have relatives, some are forgotten by their families, and others have neither means for their livelihood, nor home. It is difficult to believe that in XXI century still there are people who have nothing to eat. But, unfortunately, this is a fact of life nowadays.
People of complicated faith – this is how we can call those who fall back on the service of Lutsk City Territorial Centre of Social Services from day to day. They are senior citizens, people above 18 with disability group, resettlers, families of the war veterans, the homeless who need one or another help. Five days a week about one hundred disinherited of different age and status get a free dinner in the Territorial Centre, which is located in Lutsk on 18 Danulo Halytskyi Street.
Every day two cooks make 50-litter pan of the first course, and 30 liters of dried fruit drink or tea. For people who come here this is not just an opportunity to eat tasty food, but have a talk with those who have the same fate. And for those who cannot come by themselves, the workers deliver dinner to their door.
As sorrowful as it sounds, but every year the number of people under the care of the Lutsk Territorial Centre is getting bigger. For 22 years of its activity, the range of services that can be used by socially disadvantaged sections of the community, has also diversified.
“A person who comes to us can not only have dinner, but have a haircut, get washed, wash clothes, visit a room of givings, training equipment, undergo physiotherapeutic procedures. During 2016 we provided more than 300 thousand services of this kind,” – says Halyna Shatetska, a Head of the Centre. – “About 70 people are fed using the city budget funds. Thanks to the “With Warmth in the Heart” Program of “Tilky Razom” Foundation, we have a possibility to feed 50 more people”.
Ihor Palytsia’s Foundation “Tilky Razom” has been working closely with Lutsk Territorial Centre since 2013. During this time, using the Foundation’s money, more than two thousand people were fed for free. Besides, the Foundation has provided personal hygiene products for people that have turned out to be in a difficult situation.
“Alongside this, thanks to the Foundation, the dishwashing room has been renewed and equipped. It has been bought medical equipment for physiotherapeutic room and new equipment for the kitchen: a gas range, electric fryer, fridge and kitchenware. In order to provide comfortable working conditions for our employees, an air conditioner has been installed. In 2016 with the help of the Foundation, a sanitary room was renewed; it can be used by not only those who train in the gym, but also people under care who live in private housing and do not have proper conveniences”, Halyna Shatetska says.
In winter at the premises of the Territorial Centre there is a warming centre (it works when the temperature drops to 10 and more degrees Centigrade below zero). The homeless who have nowhere to get warm can always find hot tea and a piece of bread here. The employees of the Centre always try to support and help those who need this. Because when you’re not alone with your grief, it stops being a heavy burden.
